Travelling in Europe: is the euro enough?

Not every European country uses the euro. Here is what to carry, depending on where you are going.

It is a common assumption that euros will cover a European trip. In practice, a number of countries still use their own currency.

Countries outside the euro

  • United Kingdom — pound sterling (GBP)
  • Switzerland — Swiss franc (CHF)
  • Czech Republic — Czech koruna (CZK)
  • Hungary — forint (HUF)
  • Poland — złoty (PLN)
  • Norway, Sweden and Denmark — their respective krone / krona

For a multi-country trip, take euros as your base and add local currency only where you need it. Ask at a branch whether we stock the one you are after.
